What We Do

AM (Prep School) delivers quality education through teacher-directed learning, going above traditional rote learning to provide explicit teaching that is student-centered, purposeful, and thoughtful within The Early Stage 1 Syllabus. Our Prep School Program is catered for young learners aged 3-5 years.

AM (Prep School) offer two different program options:

3.5-Hour Program - Half Day (Tuesday - Friday)

Literacy, Numeracy & Physical Education

Recess & Lunch Break

5-Hour Program- Full Day (Tuesday - Friday)

Literacy, Numeracy, Physical Education, Art & Reading

Recess, Lunch & Crunch and sip

The program enables young learners to develop skills in key learning areas such as Literacy, Numeracy, Art, Reading and Physical Education in a positive and supportive learning environment. Teacher-directed learning focuses on intentional teaching strategies such as modelling and demonstration, open questioning, inquiring, explaining, and engaging in shared thinking and problem solving to ensure that children are proactive participants in their own learning journey.

Physical Education is a dedicated component as part of our Half-Day and Full-Day Program, introducing students to fundamental movement skills. Fundamental movement skills are a specific set of skills that involve different body parts such as feet, legs, trunk, head, arms and hands. These skills are the “building blocks” for more complex and specialised skills that kids will need throughout their lives to competently participate in different games, sports and recreational activities in Primary Education.

AM (Prep School) teaches students to understand classroom etiquette, build positive relationships, develop student self-regulation, and develop the cognitive skills required for a smooth transition into Primary School.

FAQ:

How does the program work?

AM (Prep School) is designed to transition students from Preschool to Kindergarten. With this, the program runs for 12 months in line with NSW school year. Each term builds upon previous learning outcomes and exposes children to learning through a 10-week term.

Term 1: 10 Weeks

Term 2: 10 Weeks

Term 3: 10 Weeks

Term 4: 10 Weeks

During your child’s day at AM (Prep School), there will be hourly sessions and scheduled break times for Recess and Lunch.

What do they learn in the program?

The program is centred upon the key learning areas of Literacy, Numeracy, Physical Education, Art and Reading. An example of the (Half-Day) learning program is broken as follows:

Session 1: Literacy (1 hour)

Break Time: Recess Circle Time (10 minutes)

Session 2: Mathematics (1 hour)

Break Time: Lunch (20 minutes)

Session 3: Physical Education (1 hour)

What will your child need to bring with them?

In preparation for Kindergarten, we ask that your child brings a packed lunch box and water bottle. We also ask that you pack a change of clothes in their school bag.

Compulsory school uniform (polo & hat) will need to be purchased at reception on your Childs first day.

Class resources such as pencils, books and folders will all be provided as part of school fees for the term.

What if I enrol my child halfway through the year? What happens to the learning they missed?

Not to worry!

However, we do recommend that your child is placed in the same term as their enrolment. As educators, it is our job to catch them up on missed work. We can personalise the program to meet your child's needs!

How is the teaching delivered?

AM (Prep School) delivers its readiness program through teacher directed lessons with prepared workbooks covering each key learning area. Each term student booklets provide extensive opportunities for students to develop their writing skills, pencil grip, numeracy skills and language-based problem-solving. Weekly homework is provided after each session and collected for marking at the beginning of your child’s next session.
